La Mariposa Hotel: A Piece of Paradise

costa rica

Costa Rica is known for its beautiful beaches and enchanting rainforest.  That’s why on our last day in this country, we decided to stay in a luxurious hotel overlooking Manuel Antonio National Park.

Sitting atop the highest point in Manuel Antonio, Hotel La Mariposa offers 360-degree views of the Pacific Ocean and Manuel Antonio Park.

A stay at La Mariposa Hotel offers some spectacular views and unforgettable sunsets.  Tropical gardens will surround you, nature, oversee the rain forest canopy, and enjoy an architecturally designed Spanish-Mediterranean room.  Simply put, you will be in Paradise. Be ready for the picture overload of La Mariposa, as we have never fallen in love with a hotel room view more than here.

The Rooms at La Mariposa Hotel

With just one room left, the hotel staff gave us the Double Connecting Room. This room is ideal for friends and families because it features two king-sized beds, two futons, two private bathrooms, and two living rooms. Of course, we didn’t need so much space, but hey, we’re not complaining. We had these huge connecting rooms all to ourselves!

Our corner room was on the second floor.  It had unbeatable views of Manuel Antonio Park and the Manuel Antonio Beaches.  An internal door separates the rooms, and for more privacy, each room has its private entrance via the wrap-around terrace.

The larger bedroom leads out to a private terrace with a spacious seating area. The balcony overlooks more than a 180-degree view of the Pacific Ocean.

Other room options include:

Other room options include the Premier Ocean View Rooms and the Standard Ocean View, with panoramic views of Manuel Antonio beach. The hotel has the Standard Partial Ocean View Room, which sits next to the tropical rain forest and the chance of seeing monkeys and other wildlife from your window.

The Standard Garden View Room comes with a balcony and garden views while offering lower rates.  There are Two-Bedroom Apartment Rooms for families that come with private terraces and garden views.  Lastly, you have the Honeymoon Suite, which consists of the complete top floor with panoramic views, a walk-in closet, and a jacuzzi.

It has a lot of amenities such as a terrace or balcony.  It also has a free shuttle service to the beach and free WiFi.  The room comes with a hairdryer, electronic safe, cable Plasma TV, and beach towels.  There is also room service, 24-hour security, infinity pools, and a delicious full breakfast!

The Views at La Mariposa Hotel

La Mariposa Hotel was a memorable experience because we saw the incredible Manuel Antonio area. We wanted to spend our time on the balcony of our hotel. It had a balcony that had over 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean, and from the connecting room, we had access to views of the national park.

The hotel itself is beautifully designed.  It has tropical gardens, abundant plant life, lovely walkways, stunning views from the pools, and wildlife that comes by.  It’s full of natural beauty.

Apparently, we are not the only people who believe this hotel is impressive.  Patricia Shultz’ mentioned La Mariposa Hotel as one of the “1,000 Places to See Before You Die” in her best-seller book.  There’s no doubt that this hotel offers majestic views of Manuel Antonio!

Infinity Pools

The hotel itself included two infinity pools.  One large enough to swim laps in and one with a bar.  Poolside, you have access to a jacuzzi and lounge chairs with shade.  The pool area also has different bars and a restaurant.  The hotel includes beach towels for those who need them.  From the pool area, you have views of the Pacific Ocean and you can enjoy stunning sunsets.

The landscape is beautiful and the pools reflect the natural Costa Rican beauty. Again, because Manuel Antonio sits atop the highest peak, you will have a forest canopy view of the surrounding areas.  If you’re lucky like us, you might even spot a giant whale moving across the ocean.  Sitting on the lower floor, you have access to another pool that sits next to a bar and pool tables that come as great entertainment.

Le Papillon restaurant serves international cuisine and Costa Rican seafood and comes with a Sunset Bar and Lounge so you can sip on some tasty cocktails.

How to Get There and When to Visit

This property is 10 minutes from Quepos downtown and only a 5-minute drive from Manuel Antonio Beach and Park.  If you come from San Jose, it’s a 2 1/2 mile drive on route 27.

Oh, that looks like an amazing experience. How beautiful. That furniture is simply stunning!! And I probably coudn’t wait to get into that pool, I mean… who can resist a pool with a view.
#WeekendWanderlust

It was pretty amazing! We unfortunately couldn’t make it into the pool.

Beautiful views, love the Spanish rooms too.

🙂 The views were like no other.

What a beautiful place! When I went to Manuel Antonio, we stayed in Quepos. That wasn’t a good idea (not sure if you got to see the town, hope not). And, so nice the hotel serves gallo pinto for breakfast. #TheWeeklyPostcard

Isn’t Costa Rica wonderful!? We didn’t get to see much of Quepos. We spent our time at the Manuel Antonio mostly.

Very nice hotel! Love hotels when they have connecting rooms, great for friends and family. Thanks for linking up with #TheWeeklyPostcard!

Yes! We were wishing for some family to share the beauty with.

This hotel is for sure at the top of our list for when the day comes that I go to Costa Rica. This place looks like dream. All the amenities you shared not to mentions the views right from your window. How can you pass this up. Thanks for sharing your input?

Those pools are amazing. I love swim up bars and the views look fantastic too. Looks like a great place to stay. Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard.

It’s been the best place we’ve stayed at with the best views! 🙂

I love Costa Rica so much I plan to move there someday. Manuel Antonio is a gorgeous area, as is this hotel. I would love the finish the day in one of those pools overlooking the jungle.

That’s so awesome! My husband and I talked about it being a great place to live temporarily. I can see why so many people go retire or take time off to be there. It’s beautiful. Hope you get to live there one day!

Oh wow, I want to escape to La Mariposa immediately. Costa Rica is a dream destination for me, and I’ll put this down as my dream accommodations while I’m there. Looks perfect… from the view to the pools to the food.

Yes! Spend at least one night like we did. You won’t even want to leave with views like this! You’ll love Costa Rica. 🙂

Always love a good infinity pool, but i was impressed by the interior of your room! The furniture is so pretty.

It was all so perfect! Especially the pool!

What a view!! We are off to that area next week and can hardly wait to explore. Such fortune to be able to do so directly from your hotel!

How exciting! You’re going to love it so much! Stay at least one night at the hotel. You won’t want to leave the premises! No need to with the views you get here.

Oh wow! Those views from the room are awesome! And you get a terrace? I might never leave! Sitting out there with coffee in the morning – that’s the way to start the day. 🙂 The grounds, the pool…overall, the hotel seems very nice. Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard & #WeekendWanderlust!

We got lucky because it was their last room and it was with a wrap around terrace! We definitely did not want to leave with the views we had! Definitely check it out one day. 🙂

I can see why you fell in love with La Mariposa. It looks enchanting! Those views are to die for. To see the ocean every morning when you wake up – what a perfect way to start the day! Just one more reason why Costa Rica is on my bucket list!

This has been the most memorable stay we’ve had! I hope you check it out when you’re in Costa Rica. Plus you’ll love this country so much.

This place looks amazing, the views are beautiful. I have been to Costa Rica twice and still not made it to Manuel Antonio, but next time I will be there. Hopefully I can stay here, I can certainly see myself chilling in those infinity pools.

Manuel Antonio was our favorite part of Costa Rica, although we loved all of it. Hope you make it there next time. 🙂

It’s not just the gorgeous views of the pools but also the beautiful green surrounding with all the trees and shrub which makes these views so outstanding! What a lovely place to stay. Would love to visit Costa Rica one day. Sounds like you had a beautiful stay!

I hope you visit and hopefully stay at this hotel. Can’t recommend it enough!

That pool wow… amazing views. I’ve never been to Costa Rica but will definitely check this place when I do ?

It’s pretty amazing! Hope you do. 🙂

Looks absolutely amazing Edith….I have an affinity (pardon the pun) for infinity pools and having them in resorts make them seem even more wonderful. The whole hotel here looks wonderful and the eating (my fave) is superb too.

Haha! Love the pun! Aren’t infinity pools the best!? This place has been my favorite stay ever to this day. I hope you get to enjoy it one day. 🙂

Lovely views! Also loved the vintage furniture and feel of the rooms.

It’s quite nice!

WOW this property is just stunning. I need to get myself to Costa Rica!

I hope you get to enjoy it one day! It’s beautiful.

The La Mariposa hotel looks as exotic as they can get. The views are breathtaking and the amenities seem top class. For me the location seems really idyllic, a great place to get away and forget the worries of life and get immersed in nature.

It’s definitely one of the nicest hotels we’ve been to. The views were beyond amazing!
