Handlery Union Square Hotel

On a birthday trip with my friends to San  Francisco, we stayed at the family-owned boutique hotel in downtown San Francisco, the Handlery Union  Square Hotel.  This is the hotel that, upon arrival, made this a great stay.  To start our week, we were greeted and checked in early without any room wait times.  The lady at the front desk said Happy Birthday and told me they were giving us an upgrade to a family room with two rooms and three beds.  This made our day!  We’d each have our own bed!

Not only were we given a room upgrade, but a staff member brought champagne and a birthday gift bag filled with snacks for us to enjoy a few minutes after we settled in.  This was a lovely surprise!  Aside from treating us so well, we enjoyed a pleasant and convenient stay.  Let me share with you why the Handlery Union Square Hotel was so great.

Handlery Union Square Hotel Amenities:

The hotel included comfortable rooms with standard amenities such as flat-screen TV with cable, work desks, comfortable beds, and high-quality working Wi-Fi.  The room also came with a refrigerator, coffee maker, hairdryer, iron, toiletries, and room service.

Other amenities to enjoy are an outdoor heated pool (check out their cover picture of it), a fitness center, business center, hair salon, concierge, and best of all, a sauna!  The hotel also has an onsite restaurant that serves American cuisine, or you can order room service.  For those business travelers, there are meeting and conference rooms available.

Hotel Location:

The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of San Francisco in Union Square.  This is the bay area’s upscale shopping center, entertainment, and shopping district.  It is also the perfect place to shop at regular stores such as Forever 21 and Macy’s while window shopping at higher-end stores like Prada and Vera Wang.

At night, it was a great area to roam and to walk to nearby bars.  During the day, it is an easy 5-minute walk to the Powell Street Cable car, Chinatown, and a short distance from the Piers.  Location-wise, there is a Starbucks and a Walgreens located just a few minutes away.

Our stay at the Handlery Union Square Hotel

The Handlery Union Square Hotel was a pleasant stay because we had complete comfort.  The hotel was a good choice as a delicate sleeper, always sensitive to noise, lighting, and comfort.  The beds and pillows were comfortable, the window drapes were dark enough, and our room was quiet, allowing me to get the sleep needed.

Another thing we liked about the hotel was their service.  They checked us in quickly, were friendly to speak to, and treated us well.

We also enjoyed the room.  It had an antique vibe with old doorknobs, neutral bronze and gold colors, and was spacious.  The room itself had everything we needed.  It had many outlets and amenities we used, such as a hairdryer, a refrigerator, and shampoos and soaps.  Every morning we had our daily coffee as it was restocked daily for us.

Lastly, we loved the location.  Yes, we could have stayed even closer to the piers where many people stay because of Fisherman’s Wharf, but we found ourselves enjoying the area we were at even more.  Though we didn’t do a lot of shopping, considering we stayed at Union Square, the main place to shop in San Francisco, we still did a lot of window shopping and walked around the neighborhood.

Just a few steps away is the huge Macy’s with a Cheesecake Factory atop the building with views of the city.  We also had the Coit Tower, Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, Pier 39, China Town, and the Pier to catch the Alcatraz Tour a few minutes away.  All of which only took 15-30 minutes of walking.
