Things to do in Page, Arizona

If you’ve never been to the northern part of Arizona, now is the time to plan a trip! I grew up in Arizona and had never visited Page. I didn’t know what I was missing out on. It’s one of my favorite destinations in the state. If you plan a trip there, I want to share some things to do in Page, Arizona, that I know you’ll love.

Don’t underestimate this little town. Although Page is small, it’s filled with adventurous things to do.

For starters, Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend are in this town and only within 10 minutes of each other. There are a lot of outdoor activities too. You can kayak, use jet skis, rent a boat, ride ATVs, and more.

Enjoy a Sunset at Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend is a breathtaking site! Visiting this spot is my number one recommendation. You will fall in love with the stunning view. You can find it along Highway 89, park at the lot, and walk about 10-20 minutes to the rim. There is a 1,000 ft drop that overlooks the Colorado River down below. It’s an incredible view.

Admire Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon is composed of the Upper and Lower slots, yet both are equally beautiful. Upper Antelope Canyon is less rigorous and densely populated. It has cool light beams and pouring sand. Lower Antelope Canyon has deeper red hues and feels more adventurous because you’ll be climbing and descending stairs. In addition, it is cheaper and less crowded. As a result, this makes the visit much more enjoyable. No matter which you choose to visit, you’ll enjoy it.

Kayak Lake Powell at Antelope Canyon

Kayaking through Antelope Canyon is at the top of my favorite experiences thus far. The canyon walls are high and narrow. It was simply one of the most beautiful places I’ve kayaked.

My friends and I had this place almost to ourselves, which made the experience much better. Other things to do at Lake Powell are riding jet skis, renting yachts, or laying out by the water to tan and have a picnic.

Admire the view at Glen Canyon Dam

You can see Glen Canyon Dam from the Bridge on Highway 89 that leads towards Utah. If you’re driving north into Utah, you will pass the bridge. Take a few minutes to stop to check out the beauty of the canyon. If you want to know more about the dam, there are guided tours of the facility. It’s a great place to admire the work of the engineers and architects that designed it.

Hike Waterholes Canyon

Waterholes Canyon is just a couple of miles south of Horseshoe Bend on Highway 89. This slot canyon gets very few visitors because it requires a hiking permit. You can get the hiking permit from the Tribal Parks Office.

If you like to explore places on your own, this is a great spot. We only walked the top because we didn’t have a permit. However, I hope to go back one day because the slot canyons looked incredible.

Camp in the Desert, in the middle of nowhere

Page, Arizona gets busy and hotels fill up quickly, especially during holidays. I visited last minute on Memorial Weekend, but everything was booked. The only rooms I found were over $400 a night.

Instead, we went to the town’s Wal-Mart, bought a camping tent and airbed, and set up camp in the middle of the desert. Unfortunately, we didn’t find a proper camping spot with facilities, but we did find a dirt road along Highway 89 near the Glen Canyon, where camping is allowed.

We only spent one night here and then found a proper camping site with facilities the next day.

Cross into Utah to see Lone Rock Beach

Lone Rock Beach sits just 12 miles north of Page, in Utah. This place does look like a beach. It is part of the National Parks and has a $20 fee per car, and camping costs $14.

However, if you have the National Parks Yearly Pass, you don’t pay an entrance fee. You only pay for camping. I highly recommend the pass if you plan to visit more than three National Parks sites in a year. It saves you money.

At Lone Rock Beach, people park their RVs and set up their tents around the lone rock in the water. What’s great about this campsite is you can swim, ride jet skis, kayak, ride yachts, or lounge on a floaty. People also take their ATVS and off-road vehicles to ride near the area.

There are plenty of bathrooms and spots to set up your tent. Although there aren’t indoor showers, they have places to rinse yourself off.

Page, Arizona, is the perfect destination for adventure lovers. So, take your water and off-road toys and enjoy this town. If you don’t have any, no worries. There are plenty of places where you can rent stuff or tours you can take.
