How it all began

To be completely raw, my love for travel began after a tragic event in my life.
In summary, back in 2014 I moved from Arizona to California just months after a miscarriage. That difficult time led me to explore California as much as I could.
But when I went through two more miscarriages, I convinced my ex-husband for us to go backpack Asia. He somehow agreed after some convincing.
We had the time of our lives! We swam with whale sharks in the Philippines, slept on overnight buses in Vietnam, walked the Wall of China, got baptized in the Jordan River, and so much more!
Unfortunately, some time after going back to Arizona, we went through a divorce. That brokenness and confusing time in my life led me to discover solo travel.
I started with a few small trips, followed by a 6-week backpacking trip in Europe, and ended with me quitting my teaching job again so I could backpack for 5 months through Latin America.
Guess what? Those 5 months somehow turned into 2 years of full-time travel and eventually I moved to Medellin as an expat.
I can no longer stop. I’m addicted!
My Travel Style
My goal for this blog is to inspire you to travel more and to experience new cultures along the way, especially women.
I want you to see that there are many kind souls around the world.
My hope is that you also experience the awesome adventures that perhaps you don’t normally do at home, such as surfing in Mexico, or hiking an active volcano, or sandboard in Peru, and make friends from all over the world who are different than ourselves.
And if no one is willing to join you, I hope it doesn’t hold you back. My goals is to inspire you to go out there and do it alone. Solo travel has marked my life in a positive way and the truth is, you are never really alone!
My travel style doesn’t fit one box, so you’ll see a bit of everything recommended on this blog. You’ll see budget-friendly travel, to the occasional luxury stay.
As for things to do, Life Beyond Home encompasses my personality. It’s a bit of everything! I share town and city guides, road trips, beaches, reviews, and cool experiences and adventures to have, such as hiking, diving, sandboarding, ATVing, and more
Lastly, the name Life Beyond Home was inspired from moving to California. I chose to document my life beyond Arizona (home) on Instagram. That’s where it all began!
